حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ دُخَيْنٍ الْحَجْرِيِّ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْبَلَ إِلَيْ
هِ رَهْطٌ فَبَايَعَ تِسْعَةً وَأَمْسَكَ عَنْ وَاحِدٍ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بَايَعْتَ تِسْعَةً وَتَرَكْتَ هَذَا قَالَ إِنَّ عَلَيْهِ تَمِيمَةً فَأَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ فَقَطَعَهَا فَبَايَعَهُ وَقَالَ مَنْ عَلَّقَ تَمِيمَةً فَقَدْ أَشْرَكَ

English Translation
ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir al-Juhanī narrated that a group came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He gave the pledge to nine of them but withheld from one. They said: "O Messenger of Allah, you gave the pledge to nine but left this one." He said: "He has a tamīmah (amulet) on him." So the man put his hand in and cut it off, and then he ﷺ gave him the pledge. And he said: "Whoever hangs a tamīmah has committed shirk."
