حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ وَرَكِبَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ إِلَى عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ إِلَى مِصْرَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَائِلُكَ عَنْ أَمْرٍ لَمْ يَبْقَ مِمَّنْ حَضَرَهُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَل
َّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا أَنَا وَأَنْتَ كَيْفَ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ فِي سَتْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ سَتَرَ مُؤْمِنًا فِي الدُّنْيَا عَلَى عَوْرَةٍ سَتَرَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَرَجَعَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَمَا حَلَّ رَحْلَهُ يُحَدِّثُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ

English Translation
Ibn Jurayj (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that abū Ayyūb traveled to ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir in Egypt and said: "I am going to ask you about something that only you and I remain of those who witnessed it with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. How did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ speak about concealing the faults of a believer?" He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever conceals a believer in this world regarding a fault, Allah عز وجل will conceal him on the Day of Resurrection." Then he returned to Madīnah without even unpacking his belongings, narrating this ḥadīth.
