English Translation

ʿIyāḍ ibn Ḥimār narrated that the Prophet ﷺ gave a sermon one day and said in his sermon: "My Lord عز وجل has commanded me to teach you what you do not know, from what He taught me on this day: 'All wealth that I have bestowed upon My servants is lawful. I created all My servants as ḥunafāʾ (upon pure monotheism), but the devils came to them and led them astray from their religion, and forbade them what I had made lawful for them, and commanded them to associate with Me that for which I sent down no authority.' Then Allah عز وجل looked at the people of the earth and despised them — both Arab and non-Arab — except for remnants from the People of the Book. And He said: 'I only sent you to test you and to test others through you. And I revealed to you a Book that water cannot wash away — you recite it sleeping and waking.' Then Allah عز وجل commanded me to burn Quraysh. I said: 'O my Lord, then they will crush my head and leave it like bread.' He said: 'Drive them out as they drove you out. Go to war against them, and We will wage war for you. Spend, and We will provide for you. Send an army, and We will send five like it. Fight with those who obey you against those who disobey you.' The people of Paradise are three: a just ruler who gives charity and is granted success; a merciful man with a tender heart toward every relative and Muslim; and a poor man who is chaste and gives charity. The people of the Fire are five: the weak one who has no restraint — those who are among you as followers, not seeking family or wealth; the traitor whose greed, however small, he never fails to betray; a man who does not begin a morning or evening except that he is deceiving you regarding your family and wealth." And he mentioned miserliness and lying, and the foul-mouthed, obscene person. [A second isnād corroborates the same ḥadīth.]
