English Translation
Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Abū Bishr, who said: I heard ʿAbbād ibn Shuraḥbīl — and he was one of us, from Banū Ghubar — who said: "A year of famine struck us, so I came to Medina and entered a garden from its gardens. I took some ears of grain, rubbed them and ate from them, and carried some in my garment. The owner of the garden came, beat me, and took my garment. I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said to the owner: 'You did not teach him when he was ignorant, nor did you feed him when he was hungry.' He returned my garment to me and ordered that I be given half a wasq — or a wasq — of grain."
