English Translation

Yaʿlā ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us, Ismāʿīl narrated to us, from Qays, from Dukayn ibn Saʿīd al-Muzanī, who said: "We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — forty riders and four hundred — asking him for food. He said to ʿUmar: 'Go and give them.' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, all that remains is a few ṣāʿs of dates. I do not think it will last me the summer.' He said: 'Go and give them.' He said: 'I hear and obey.' ʿUmar took the key from his waistband and opened the door, and there was an amount like a crouching young camel of dates. He said: 'Take.' Each man of us took what he wished. Then I looked back — and I was among the last of the people — and it was as if we had not taken a single date." Wakīʿ narrated to us, Ismāʿīl narrated to us, from Qays, from Dukayn ibn Saʿīd al-Khathʿamī, who said: We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — we were four hundred and forty — and he mentioned the hadith. Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us, Ismāʿīl narrated to us, from Qays, from Dukayn ibn Saʿīd — and he mentioned the hadith. Yaʿlā and Muḥammad the sons of ʿUbayd narrated to us, they said: Ismāʿīl narrated to us, from Qays, from Dukayn ibn Saʿīd al-Muzanī — and he mentioned the hadith.
