ثُمَّ مَرَّ عَلَيْنَا يَوْمًا آخَرَ فَقَالَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ كَلِمَةً تَنْفَعُنَا وَلَا تَضُرُّكَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ نِعْمَ الرَّجُلُ خُرَيْمٌ الْأَسَدِيُّ لَوْ قَصّ
َ مِنْ شَعَرِهِ وَقَصَّرَ إِزَارَهُ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ خُرَيْمًا فَعَجَّلَ فَأَخَذَ الشَّفْرَةَ فَقَصَّرَ مِنْ جُمَّتِهِ وَرَفَعَ إِزَارَهُ إِلَى أَنْصَافِ سَاقَيْهِ قَالَ أَبِي فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَرَأَيْتُ رَجُلًا مَعَهُ عَلَى السَّرِيرِ شَعَرُهُ فَوْقَ أُذُنَيْهِ مُؤْتَزِرًا إِلَى أَنْصَافِ سَاقَيْهِ قُلْتُ مَنْ هَذَا قَالُوا خُرَيْمٌ الْأَسَدِيُّ

English Translation
Then he passed by us another day, and Abū al-Dardāʾ said, 'A word that benefits us and does not harm you.' He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'What an excellent man Khuraym al-Asadī is, if only he would trim his hair and shorten his lower garment.' When this reached Khuraym, he hastily took a blade and trimmed his hair and raised his lower garment to mid-shin. My father said: I later visited Muʿāwiyah and saw a man with him on the couch, his hair above his ears, wearing his lower garment to mid-shin. I asked, 'Who is this?' They said, 'Khuraym al-Asadī.'
