حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ
بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَابِرٍ يَقُولُ حَدَّثَنِي بُسْرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا إِدْرِيسَ الْخَوْلَانِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ النَّوَّاسَ بْنَ سَمْعَانَ الْكِلَابِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ قَلْبٍ إِلَّا وَهُوَ بَيْنَ أُصْبُعَيْنِ مِنْ أَصَابِعِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ إِنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يُقِيمَهُ أَقَامَهُ وَإِنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يُزِيغَهُ أَزَاغَهُ وَكَانَ يَقُولُ يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قُلُوبَنَا عَلَى دِينِكَ وَالْمِيزَانُ بِيَدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَخْفِضُهُ وَيَرْفَعُهُ

English Translation
Al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated to us saying: I heard — meaning Ibn Jābir — saying: Busr ibn ʿUbaydillāh al-Ḥaḍramī narrated to me that he heard Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī say: I heard al-Nawwās ibn Samʿān al-Kilābī say: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'There is no heart except that it is between two fingers of the Lord of the Worlds. If He wills to set it upright, He sets it upright, and if He wills to deviate it, He deviates it.' He used to say, 'O Turner of hearts, make our hearts firm upon Your religion.' And the Scale is in the Hand of the Most Merciful عز وجل; He lowers it and raises it.
