Hadith #54

English Translation

ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Maʿmar informed me, Ayyūb narrated to us, from Abū Qilābah, from Abū al-Ashʿath al-Ṣanʿānī, from Abū Asmāʾ al-Raḥabī, from Shaddād ibn Aws رضي الله عنه, that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Indeed, Allāh عز وجل gathered the earth for me until I saw its east and its west. And the dominion of my Ummah will reach whatever was gathered for me of it. I was given the two treasures: the white [silver] and the red [gold]. And I asked my Lord عز وجل not to destroy my Ummah by a general famine, and not to set upon them an enemy who would destroy them en masse, and not to divide them into factions or let some of them taste the violence of others. He said: 'O Muḥammad, when I decree a decree, it cannot be reversed. I have granted your Ummah that I will not destroy them by a general famine, nor will I set upon them an enemy from outside them who would destroy them en masse — until some of them destroy others, and some of them kill others, and some of them take others captive.'"
