حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ أَوْ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَهُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ الْجَوْزَجَانِيُّ قَال
َ رُحْتُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَلَقِيَنِي عُتْبَةُ بْنُ عَبْدٍ الْمَازِنِيُّ فَقَالَ لِي أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ فَقُلْتُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ أَبْشِرْ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ إِلَى غُدُوٍّ أَوْ رَوَاحٍ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ إِلَّا كَانَتْ خُطَاهُ خَطْوَةً كَفَّارَةً وَخَطْوَةً دَرَجَةً

English Translation
Ḥaywah ibn Shurayḥ narrated to us, Baqiyyah narrated to us, Muḥammad ibn Ziyād narrated to us — or: someone who heard him narrated to me — saying: Yazīd ibn Zayd al-Jawzajānī narrated to me saying: I went to the mosque and met ʿUtbah ibn ʿAbd al-Māzinī. He said to me, 'Where are you heading?' I said, 'To the mosque.' He said, 'Rejoice, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "No servant goes out from his house in the morning or evening to the mosque except that each step he takes is an expiation for a sin and an elevation in rank."'
