English Translation

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Saʿīd narrated to us — and Yazīd ibn Hārūn said: Saʿīd informed us — from Qatādah, from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ghanm, from ʿAmr ibn Khārijah who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us at Minā while on his mount, and it was chewing its cud with its saliva dripping between my shoulders. He said, 'Allah has apportioned to every person his share of inheritance, so no bequest is permissible for an heir. The child belongs to the bed, and the fornicator gets the stone. Whoever claims descent from other than his father or affiliates with other than his patrons out of desire to leave them, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people.' Ibn Jaʿfar said: Yazīd said, and Maṭar [added], 'Neither repentance nor ransom will be accepted from him' — or: 'neither ransom nor repentance.' My father [Aḥmad] said: Yazīd said in his narration: 'nor ransom.' ʿAmr ibn Khārijah narrated to them that the Prophet ﷺ addressed them on his mount.
