English Translation
Al-Ḥakam ibn Nāfiʿ narrated to us, Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us, from Ḍamḍam ibn Zurʿah, from Shurayḥ ibn ʿUbayd, who said: Al-ʿIrbāḍ ibn Sāriyah said: the Prophet ﷺ used to come out to us in the Ṣuffah while we were wearing ḥawtakiyyah [coarse garments], and he would say: "If you only knew what has been stored for you, you would not grieve over what has been withheld from you. Persia and Rome shall surely be opened for you."
