حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ خُبَيْبِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي الْهُذَيْلِ قَالَ كَانَ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ يَتَخَوَّلُنَا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ م
ِنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ لَئِنْ لَمْ تَنْتَهِ قُرَيْشٌ لَيَضَعَنَّ اللَّهُ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ فِي جُمْهُورٍ مِنْ جَمَاهِيرِ الْعَرَبِ سِوَاهُمْ فَقَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ كَذَبْتَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ قُرَيْشٌ وُلَاةُ النَّاسِ فِي الْخَيْرِ وَالشَّرِّ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

English Translation
ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī al-Hudhayl narrated: ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ used to preach to us. A man from Bakr ibn Wāʾil said: 'If Quraysh does not stop, Allah will surely place this matter among a distinguished people from the main body of the Arabs other than them.' ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ said: 'You lie! I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Quraysh are the guardians of the people in good and evil until the Day of Resurrection."'
