حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ قَالَ ثَنَا جَرِيرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ حَازِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ قَالَ قَالَ رَجُلٌ لِعَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ أَرَأَيْتَ رَجُلًا مَاتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يُ
حِبُّهُ أَلَيْسَ رَجُلًا صَالِحًا قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ قَدْ مَاتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يُحِبُّكَ وَقَدْ اسْتَعْمَلَكَ فَقَالَ قَدْ اسْتَعْمَلَنِي فَوَاللَّهِ مَا أَدْرِي أَحُبًّا كَانَ لِي مِنْهُ أَوْ اسْتِعَانَةً بِي وَلَكِنْ سَأُحَدِّثُكَ بِرَجُلَيْنِ مَاتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يُحِبُّهُمَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَعَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ

English Translation
Al-Ḥasan narrated: A man said to ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ: 'Do you consider a man whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ loved when he died — is he not a righteous man?' He said: 'Yes.' The man said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died while he loved you, and he appointed you to positions of authority.' ʿAmr said: 'He appointed me, but by Allah, I do not know whether it was out of love for me or because he needed my assistance. But I will tell you about two men whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died while loving: ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd and ʿAmmār ibn Yāsir.'
