Abū Naḍrah narrated: We came to ʿUthmān ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ on a Friday to compare our muṣḥaf with his. When Jumuʿah came, he ordered us to bathe, then perfume was brought and we applied it. Then we came to the mosque and sat with a man who told us about the Dajjāl. Then ʿUthmān ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ came, and we stood and sat with him. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The Muslims will have three garrison cities: a city at the junction of the two seas, a city at al-Ḥīrah, and a city in al-Shām. The people will be alarmed by three alarms, and the Dajjāl will emerge among the populace. He will defeat those to the east, and the first city he reaches will be the one at the junction of the two seas. Its people will split into three groups: one group that says 'Let us wait and see what he is,' another that joins the Bedouins, and another that joins the next city. With the Dajjāl will be seventy thousand wearing cloaks, and most of his followers will be Jews and women. Then he will come to the next city, and its people will also split into three groups: one that says 'Let us wait and see,' another that joins the Bedouins, and another that joins the city to the west in al-Shām. The Muslims will retreat to the pass of Afīq, and they will send out their livestock, but their livestock will be seized. They will suffer severe hardship and intense hunger, until one of them will burn the string of his bow and eat it. While they are in that state, a caller will cry out at the time before dawn: 'O people, relief has come to you!' — three times. Some will say to others: 'This is the voice of a well-fed man.' Then ʿĪsā ibn Maryam عليه السلام will descend at the time of Fajr prayer, and their leader will say to him: 'O Spirit of Allah, come forward and lead the prayer.' He will say: 'This ummah — some of them are leaders over others.' So their leader will come forward and lead the prayer. When he finishes, ʿĪsā will take his spear and go toward the Dajjāl. When the Dajjāl sees him, he will melt as lead melts. He will place his spear between his chest and kill him. His followers will be routed, and on that day nothing will shelter any of them — even the tree will say: 'O believer, here is a disbeliever!' and the stone will say: 'O believer, here is a disbeliever!'"
