حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ أَنَّ صَفْوَانَ بْنَ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ يَعْلَى كَانَ يَقُولُ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ لَيْتَنِي أَرَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ يُنْزَلُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ بِالْجِعْرَانَةِ وَعَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَوْبٌ قَدْ أُظِلَّ بِهِ مَعَهُ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ مِنْهُمْ عُمَرُ إِذْ جَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ عَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ مُتَضَمِّخًا بِطِيبٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ تَرَى فِي رَجُلٍ أَحْرَمَ بِعُمْر
َةٍ فِي جُبَّةٍ بَعْدَ مَا تَضَمَّخَ بِطِيبٍ فَنَظَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَاعَةً ثُمَّ سَكَتَ فَجَاءَهُ الْوَحْيُ فَأَشَارَ عُمَرُ إِلَى يَعْلَى أَنْ تَعَالَ فَجَاءَ يَعْلَى فَأَدْخَلَ رَأْسَهُ فَإِذَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُحْمَرُّ الْوَجْهِ كَذَلِكَ سَاعَةً ثُمَّ سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ الَّذِي سَأَلَنِي عَنْ الْعُمْرَةِ آنِفًا فَالْتُمِسَ الرَّجُلُ فَأُتِيَ بِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَّا الطِّيبُ الَّذِي بِكَ فَاغْسِلْهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَأَمَّا الْجُبَّةُ فَانْزِعْهَا ثُمَّ اصْنَعْ فِي عُمْرَتِكَ كَمَا تَصْنَعُ فِي حَجَّتِكَ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Yaʿlā ibn Umayyah رضي الله عنه used to say to ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه: "I wish I could see the Prophet ﷺ when revelation descends upon him." When they were at al-Jiʿrānah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was shaded by a garment with some of his Companions including ʿUmar, a man came wearing a jubbah smeared with perfume. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about a man who entered iḥrām for ʿumrah in a jubbah after applying perfume?" the Prophet ﷺ looked at him for a while, then was silent. Then revelation came to him. ʿUmar gestured to Yaʿlā to come. Yaʿlā came and put his head in, and the Prophet ﷺ was red-faced for a while. Then it was lifted from him, and he said: "Where is the one who asked me about ʿumrah just now?" The man was sought and brought. the Prophet ﷺ said: "As for the perfume that is on you, wash it off three times. As for the jubbah, remove it. Then do in your ʿumrah what you would do in your ḥajj."
