حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَتِيقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَابَيْهِ عَنْ بَعْضِ بَنِي يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ فَاسْتَلَمَ الرُّكْنَ قَالَ يَعْلَى وَكُنْتُ مِمَّا يَلِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا بَلَغْتُ الرُّكْنَ الْغَرْبِيَّ الَّذِي يَلِي الْأَسْوَدَ وَحَدَر
ْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ لِأَسْتَلِمَ فَقَالَ مَا شَأْنُكَ قُلْتُ أَلَا تَسْتَلِمُ هَذَيْنِ قَالَ أَلَمْ تَطُفْ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَهُ يَسْتَلِمُ هَذَيْنِ يَعْنِي الْغَرْبِيَّيْنِ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ فَلَيْسَ لَكَ فِيهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ فَانْفُذْ عَنْكَ

English Translation
Yaʿlā ibn Umayyah رضي الله عنه narrated: I was with ʿUmar رضي الله عنه, and he kissed the corner [of the Kaʿbah]. Yaʿlā said: I was near the Prophet ﷺ. When I reached the western corner adjacent to the Black Stone, I stepped ahead of him to touch it. He said: "What is the matter with you?" I said: "Will you not touch these two corners?" He said: "Did you not perform ṭawāf with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Did you see him touch these two — meaning the western corners?" I said: "No." He said: "Is there not a good example for you in him?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Then carry on."
