Hadith #290

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي قَيْسٌ قَال
َ سَمِعْتُ الْمُسْتَوْرِدَ أَخَا بَنِي فِهْرٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاللَّهِ مَا الدُّنْيَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا مِثْلُ مَا يَجْعَلُ أَحَدُكُمْ إِصْبَعَهُ فِي الْيَمِّ فَلْيَنْظُرْ بِمَ تَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِ

English Translation
Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl, who said: Qays narrated to me, who said: I heard al-Mustawrid, brother of Banū Fihr, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: 'By Allāh, the worldly life compared to the Hereafter is nothing but like one of you dipping his finger into the sea, so let him see what it brings back to him.'
