English Translation
ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Maʿmar narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim ibn Abī al-Najūd, from Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh, who said: I came to Ṣafwān ibn ʿAssāl al-Murādī. He said: 'What brings you?' I said: 'I came seeking knowledge.' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ saying: "No one leaves his home seeking knowledge except that the angels lower their wings for him, being pleased with what he does."' I said: 'I came to ask you about wiping over the leather socks.' He said: 'Yes. I was indeed in the army that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ dispatched, and he commanded us to wipe over the leather socks if we had put them on while in a state of purity — three days when traveling and a day and a night when resident — and not to remove them except for major ritual impurity.'
