English Translation

Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushanī said: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he looked up at me then looked down, and said: 'Nuwaybitah.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, a nuwaybitah of good or a nuwaybitah of evil?' He said: 'Rather, a nuwaybitah of good.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we are in a land of hunting. I release my trained dog — sometimes I reach the animal alive to slaughter it, and sometimes I do not. I also shoot my arrow — sometimes I reach the animal alive and sometimes I do not.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Eat what your hand, your bow, and your trained dog return to you — whether slaughtered or not.'
