حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنِ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي ثَعْلَبَةَ الْخُشَنِيِّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَى فِي يَدِي خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَجَعَلَ يَقْر
َعُ يَدَهُ بِعُودٍ مَعَهُ فَغَفَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْهُ فَأَخَذَ الْخَاتَمَ فَرَمَى بِهِ فَنَظَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ يَرَهُ فِي إِصْبَعِهِ فَقَالَ مَا أُرَانَا إِلَّا قَدْ أَوْجَعْنَاكَ وَأَغْرَمْنَاكَ

English Translation
Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushanī narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a gold ring on his hand. He began tapping his hand with a stick he was holding, then the Prophet ﷺ looked away from him. So the man took the ring and threw it away. the Prophet ﷺ then looked and did not see it on his finger, so he said: 'I think we have caused you pain and cost you.'
