English Translation

Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushanī said: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we are in a land of the People of the Book. May we eat from their vessels? We are also in a land of hunting. I hunt with my bow, I hunt with my trained dog, and I hunt with my untrained dog. Tell me what is proper for me.' He said: 'As for what you mentioned about being in a land of the People of the Book and eating from their vessels — if you find anything other than their vessels, do not eat from them. If you do not find other than their vessels, then wash them and eat from them. As for what you mentioned about being in a land of hunting — if you hunt with your bow and mention the name of Allah, then eat. What you hunt with your trained dog, mention the name of Allah and eat. What you hunt with your untrained dog, if you reach the animal alive to slaughter it, then eat.'
