English Translation
Abū al-Walīd and ʿAffān narrated to us, they said: ʿUbaydullāh ibn Iyād narrated to us, Iyād narrated to us, from Suwayd ibn Sarḥān, from al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ate food, then the prayer was established. He stood — and he had already performed wuḍūʾ before that. I brought him water so he could perform wuḍūʾ again, but he rebuked me and said: 'Get back.' By Allah, that upset me. Then he prayed. I complained about that to ʿUmar, who said: 'O Prophet of Allah, al-Mughīrah was distressed by your rebuke of him and feared that you had something against him.' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'I have nothing in my heart toward him but good. But he brought me water to perform wuḍūʾ, when I had only eaten food. If I had done that, the people would have done so after me.'
