Hadith #510

English Translation

Yazīd narrated to us, Hishām ibn Ḥassān informed us, from Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn, from Abū ʿUbaydah, from a man who said: I said to ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim رضي الله عنه, 'A hadith has reached me from you that I would love to hear from you directly.' He said: 'Yes. When news of the emergence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached me, I greatly disliked his emergence. I left until I ended up in Roman territory' — Yazīd said: in Baghdad — 'until I came to Caesar. I disliked that place even more than I disliked his emergence. I said: By Allah, if only I went to this man — if he is a liar, he won't harm me; and if he is truthful, I'll know. So I came and went to him. When I arrived, people said: ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim! ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim! I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said to me: O ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim, submit and you will be safe — three times. I said: I follow a religion. He said: I know your religion better than you. I said: You know my religion better than me? He said: Yes. Are you not of the Rakūsiyyah, and you eat the quarter-share of your people? I said: Yes. He said: That is not lawful for you in your religion. As soon as he said that, I became humbled. He said: Indeed, I know what prevents you from Islam. You say: Only the weak and powerless have followed him, and the Arabs have cast them out. Do you know al-Ḥīrah? I said: I haven't seen it but I've heard of it. He said: By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, Allah will complete this matter until a woman travels from al-Ḥīrah to circumambulate the House without anyone's protection, and the treasures of Kisrā ibn Hurmuz will be opened. I said: Kisrā ibn Hurmuz? He said: Yes, Kisrā ibn Hurmuz. And wealth will overflow until no one accepts it.' ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim said: 'This woman now travels from al-Ḥīrah and circumambulates the House without anyone's protection, and I was among those who opened the treasures of Kisrā ibn Hurmuz. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the third will happen, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said it.'
