English Translation
Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Simāk ibn Ḥarb, who said: I heard Murayy ibn Qaṭarī who said: I heard ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim رضي الله عنه who said: I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, my father used to maintain family ties and do such-and-such.' He said: 'Your father sought something and attained it' — meaning fame. I said, 'I ask you about food that I avoid only out of caution.' He said: 'Don't leave anything in which you imitate Christianity.' I said, 'I send my dog and it catches game but I have nothing to slaughter it with, so I slaughter it with a sharp stone or a stick.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Cause the blood to flow with whatever you wish and mention the name of Allah عز وجل.' Ḥusayn narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us — and he mentioned it with his chain, except that he said: I heard Murayy ibn Qaṭarī al-Ṭāʾī, and he said: 'Your father sought something and attained it.' Simāk said: meaning fame. Bahz narrated to us, Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, Simāk ibn Ḥarb narrated to us — and he mentioned it from the point about hunting, and he said: 'Cause the blood to flow.'
