English Translation

Isḥāq al-Azraq narrated to us, from Sharīk, from Abū Hāshim, from Abū Mijlaz, who said: ʿAmmār رضي الله عنه led us in a prayer and was brief in it. They disapproved of that. He said: 'Did I not complete the bowing and prostration?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Indeed, I supplicated in them with a supplication the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate: O Allah, by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation, let me live as long as You know life is good for me, and take me when You know death is better for me. I ask You for fear of You in private and in public, the word of truth in anger and in pleasure, moderation in poverty and in wealth, the delight of looking at Your Face, longing to meet You. I seek refuge in You from harmful adversity and from misleading tribulation. O Allah, adorn us with the beauty of faith and make us guides who are rightly guided.' Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik narrated to us, Muḥammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, from Yazīd ibn Muḥammad ibn Khuthaym, from Muḥammad ibn Kaʿb al-Quraẓī, Muḥammad ibn Khuthaym Abū Yazīd narrated to me, from ʿAmmār ibn Yāsir who said: ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib رضي الله عنه and I were companions in the expedition of al-ʿUshayrah. We passed by men from Banū Mudlij working on their palm trees — and he mentioned the same meaning as the hadith of ʿĪsā ibn Yūnus.
