Hadith #76

حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ أَنَّ الْقَاسِمَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ فُلَانٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ بَيْنَا هُوَ يَمْشِي قَدْ أَسْبَلَ إِزَارَهُ إِذْ لَحِقَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ أَخَذَ بِنَاصِيَةِ نَفْسِهِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ عَبْدُكَ ابْنُ عَبْدِكَ ابْنُ أَمَتِكَ قَالَ عَمْرٌو فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي رَجُلٌ حَمْشُ السَّاقَيْنِ
فَقَالَ يَا عَمْرُو إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ أَحْسَنَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ يَا عَمْرُو وَضَرَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأَرْبَعِ أَصَابِعَ مِنْ كَفِّهِ الْيُمْنَى تَحْتَ رُكْبَةِ عَمْرٍو فَقَالَ يَا عَمْرُو هَذَا مَوْضِعُ الْإِزَارِ ثُمَّ رَفَعَهَا ثُمَّ وَضَعَهَا تَحْتَ الثَّانِيَةِ فَقَالَ يَا عَمْرُو هَذَا مَوْضِعُ الْإِزَارِ

English Translation
ʿAmr ibn So-and-so al-Anṣārī narrated: While he was walking with his lower garment trailing (isbāl), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ caught up with him, having taken hold of his own forelock, saying: 'O Allah, Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your handmaid.' ʿAmr said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am a man with thin shins.' He said: 'O ʿAmr, Allah عز وجل has perfected everything He created. O ʿAmr' — and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed four fingers of his right hand below ʿAmr's knee — 'O ʿAmr, this is the place of the izār (lower garment).' Then he raised it and placed it below the second knee and said: 'O ʿAmr, this is the place of the izār.'
