حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ الْأَلْهَانِيِّ قَالَ ذُكِرَ عِنْدَ أَبِي عِنَبَةَ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ الشُّهَدَاءُ فَذَكَرُوا الْمَبْطُونَ وَال
ْمَطْعُونَ وَالنُّفَسَاءَ فَغَضِبَ أَبُو عِنَبَةَ وَقَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَصْحَابُ نَبِيِّنَا عَنْ نَبِيِّنَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ أُمَنَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ فِي خَلْقِهِ قُتِلُوا أَوْ مَاتُوا

English Translation
Abū ʿInabah al-Khawlānī narrated: When martyrs were mentioned in his presence — they mentioned the one killed by stomach illness, the one killed by plague, and the woman who dies in childbirth — Abū ʿInabah became angry and said: 'The Companions of our Prophet ﷺ narrated to us that he said: "The martyrs of Allah on earth are the trustees of Allah on earth over His creation — whether they are killed or die (a natural death)."'
