English Translation
ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: 'O ʿAmr, fasten your weapon and your clothes and come to me.' I did so and came to him while he was performing wuḍūʾ. He looked up at me and looked down, and said: 'O ʿAmr, I want to send you on a mission. Allah will keep you safe and grant you spoils, and I desire for you a fair share of wealth.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I did not embrace Islam out of desire for wealth. I only embraced Islam out of desire for jihād and to be with you.' He said: 'O ʿAmr, how excellent is righteous wealth for a righteous man!'
