قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَاه جَعْفَرُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِيَادٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِيَادٌ عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَيْفَ تَقُولُونَ بِفَرَحِ رَجُلٍ انْفَلَتَتْ مِنْهُ رَاحِلَتُهُ تَجُرُّ زِمَامَهَا بِأَرْضٍ قَفْرٍ لَيْسَ فِيهَا طَعَامٌ وَلَا شَرَابٌ وَعَلَيْهَا طَعَامٌ قَالَ عَفَّانُ وَشَرَابٌ فَطَلَبَهَا حَتَّى شَقَّ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ مَرَّتْ
بِجِذْلِ شَجَرَةٍ قَالَ عَفَّانُ بِجِذْلٍ فَتَعَلَّقَ زِمَامُهَا فَوَجَدَهَا مُعَلَّقَةً بِهِ قَالَ عَفَّانُ مُتَعَلِّقَةً بِهِ قَالَ قُلْنَا شَدِيدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَا وَاللَّهِ لَلَّهُ أَشَدُّ فَرَحًا بِتَوْبَةِ عَبْدِهِ مِنْ الرَّجُلِ بِرَاحِلَتِهِ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ و حَدَّثَنَاه جَعْفَرُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِيَادٍ مِثْلَهُ

English Translation
Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: Jaʿfar ibn Ḥumayd narrated it to us: ʿUbaydullāh ibn Iyād narrated to us: Iyād narrated to us, from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib رضي الله عنه who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'What do you say of the joy of a man whose riding camel has escaped from him, dragging its reins through a barren land with no food or drink, and upon it is his food — ʿAffān said: and drink — he searched for it until it exhausted him, then it passed by the stump of a tree — ʿAffān said: a stump — and its reins became tangled, and he found it hanging there?' — ʿAffān said: 'entangled in it.' We said: 'Intense, O Messenger of Allah.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed, by Allah, Allah is more joyful at the repentance of His servant than the man at finding his camel.' Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: and Jaʿfar ibn Ḥumayd narrated it to us: ʿUbaydullāh ibn Iyād narrated to us — likewise.
