حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ يَقُولُ لَمَّا صَالَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَهْلَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ كَتَبَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كِتَابًا بَيْنَهُمْ وَقَالَ فَكَتَبَ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ لَا تَكْتُبْ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَلَوْ كُنْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَمْ نُقَاتِلْكَ قَالَ فَقَا
لَ لِعَلِيٍّ امْحُهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ مَا أَنَا بِالَّذِي أَمْحَاهُ فَمَحَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِهِ قَالَ وَصَالَحَهُمْ عَلَى أَنْ يَدْخُلَ هُوَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَلَا يَدْخُلُوهَا إِلَّا بِجُلُبَّانِ السِّلَاحِ فَسَأَلْتُ مَا جُلُبَّانُ السِّلَاحِ قَالَ الْقِرَابُ بِمَا فِيهِ

English Translation
Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Abū Isḥāq, who said: I heard al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib say: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a treaty with the people of al-Ḥudaybiyah, ʿAlī رضي الله عنه wrote the document between them. He wrote: "Muḥammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." The polytheists said: "Do not write Muḥammad the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If you were truly the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we would not have fought you." He said to ʿAlī: "Erase it." ʿAlī said: "I am not one to erase it." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ erased it with his own hand. He made a treaty with them that he and his Companions would enter for three days and would not enter except with weapons in their sheaths (julubbān al-silāḥ). I asked: What is julubbān al-silāḥ? He said: The sword case with what is in it.
