حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ وَأَظُنُّ أَنِّي قَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْهُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ حَدَّثَنِي جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْت
ُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ الْهَمْدَانِيَّ يَقُولُ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْسَجَةَ عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْتِينَا فَيَمْسَحُ عَوَاتِقَنَا وَصُدُورَنَا وَيَقُولُ لَا تَخْتَلِفْ صُفُوفُكُمْ فَتَخْتَلِفَ قُلُوبُكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى الصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ أَوْ الصُّفُوفِ الْأُولَى

English Translation
Hārūn ibn Maʿrūf narrated to us — ʿAbdullāh said: I think I also heard it from him — who said: Ibn Wahb narrated to us: Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim narrated to me, saying: I heard Abū Isḥāq al-Hamdānī say: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwsajah narrated to me, from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib, who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to come to us and touch our shoulders and chests, saying: "Do not let your rows differ, lest your hearts differ. Indeed Allah and His angels send blessings upon the first row" — or "the front rows."
