حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَن شُعْبَةَ عَن أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جَع
ْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَن أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ الْبَرَاءَ قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ لَا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنْ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ دَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَيْدًا فَجَاءَ بِكَتِفٍ وَكَتَبَهَا فَشَكَا ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ ضَرَارَتَهُ فَنَزَلَتْ { لَا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنْ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ }

English Translation
Wakīʿ narrated from Sufyān, from Abū Isḥāq, from al-Barāʾ, who said: 'When the verse was revealed: "Not equal are those believers who sit [at home]" [4:95], the Prophet ﷺ said: "Call so-and-so for me." So he came to him with the inkwell, the tablet, and the shoulder-blade — or: the shoulder-blade and the inkwell. He said: "Write: 'Not equal are those believers who sit [at home] and those who strive in the cause of Allah.'" Behind the Prophet ﷺ was Ibn Umm Maktūm, and he said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have a disability." So the verse was revealed: "other than those who possess a disability" [4:95].'
