English Translation
Wakīʿ and Ibn Jaʿfar narrated — they said: Shuʿbah narrated from Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from ʿUbayd ibn Fayrūz, the freed slave of Banū Shaybān — in his narration he said: 'I asked al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib: "What did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dislike — or forbid — regarding sacrificial animals?" He said: "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us" — and he said: "His hand is longer than mine" or "my hand is shorter than his" — he said: "Four are not acceptable for sacrifice: the one-eyed whose defect is obvious, the sick whose sickness is obvious, the lame whose lameness is obvious, and the broken-boned that has no marrow." I said to al-Barāʾ: "We dislike there being a defect in the ear, or a defect in the eye, or a defect in the teeth." He said: "Whatever you dislike, leave it, but do not make it forbidden for anyone."'
