English Translation
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us, from Sufyān, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿĀbis, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā who said: A man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade cupping and continuous fasting [wiṣāl], though he did not prohibit them outright — out of mercy for his Companions. It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you observe continuous fasting until dawn.' He said: 'If I continue fasting until dawn, it is because my Lord feeds me and gives me drink.'
