حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ حَدَّثَنَا مُجَالِدٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الشَّعْبِيَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَقُولُ وَكَانَ أَمِيرًا عَلَى الْكُوفَةِ نَحَلَنِي أَبِي غُل

َامًا فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأُشْهِدَهُ فَقَالَ أَكُلَّ وَلَدِكَ نَحَلْتَ قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَإِنِّي لَا أَشْهَدُ عَلَى جَوْرٍ

English Translation

Sufyān narrated to us: Mujālid narrated to us who said: I heard al-Shaʿbī say: I heard al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr رضي الله عنه say — while he was governor of al-Kūfah: My father gave me a servant, so I came to the Prophet ﷺ to have him bear witness. He said: 'Have you given all your children such gifts?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Then I will not bear witness to injustice.'
