Hadith #477

English Translation

ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us, Zāʾidah narrated to us, ʿĀṣim ibn Kulayb narrated to us, my father informed me that Wāʾil ibn Ḥujr al-Ḥaḍramī informed him, saying: I said: 'I shall observe how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prays.' I looked at him: he stood and pronounced the takbīr, raising his hands until they were level with his ears. Then he placed his right hand on the back of his left palm, wrist, and forearm. Then, when he intended to bow, he raised his hands likewise and placed his hands on his knees. Then he raised his head and raised his hands likewise. Then he prostrated and placed his palms level with his ears. Then he sat and spread his left foot, placing his left palm on his left thigh and knee, and placed the tip of his right elbow on his right thigh. Then he clasped between his fingers, making a ring, then raised his finger — and I saw him moving it, supplicating with it. Then I came after that during a cold season, and I saw the people with garments on them, their hands moving from beneath the garments due to the cold.
