English Translation
Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, from ʿUbayd Allāh who said: Saʿīd ibn Abī Saʿīd narrated to me, from ʿUmar ibn Abī Bakr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith, from his father, that ʿAmmār prayed two rakʿahs. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith said to him: 'O Abū al-Yaqẓān, I see you have only shortened them.' He said: 'Did I reduce anything from their essential components?' He said: 'No, but you shortened them.' He said: 'I hastened through them to outpace forgetfulness. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: A man prays, and perhaps he may receive from his prayer only a tenth, a ninth, an eighth, a seventh — until he reached the end of the counting.'
