English Translation
Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us — and Ḥajjāj said: Shuʿbah narrated to me — who said: I heard Qatādah narrating from Abū Naḍrah — Ḥajjāj said: I heard Abū Naḍrah — from Qays ibn ʿAbbād who said: I said to ʿAmmār: 'Do you consider this fighting a matter of your own opinion?' — Ḥajjāj said: 'Do you consider this matter — meaning your fighting — an opinion you arrived at? For opinion can err and succeed, or was it a covenant the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made with you?' He said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not make any covenant with us that he did not make with all people generally.' He said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said — Shuʿbah said: and he thinks he said: Ḥudhayfah narrated to me — there are twelve hypocrites in my ummah. They shall not enter Paradise nor find its fragrance until a camel passes through the eye of a needle. Eight of them will be taken care of by the dubaylah — a torch of fire that appears on their backs and emerges from their chests.'
