English Translation
Bahz ibn Asad narrated to us, Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, ʿAṭāʾ al-Khurāsānī informed us, from Yaḥyā ibn Yaʿmar, that ʿAmmār said: I returned to my family at night, and my hands were cracked. They applied saffron on me as treatment. In the morning, I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I greeted him but he did not return my greeting nor welcome me. He said: 'Wash this off.' So I went and washed it, then came back while some of it still remained on me. I greeted him but he did not return my greeting nor welcome me. He said: 'Wash this off of you.' So I went and washed it, then came back and greeted him. He returned my greeting and welcomed me, and said: 'The angels do not attend the funeral of a disbeliever, nor that of one who has applied saffron, nor that of a person in a state of major ritual impurity.' He granted a concession for the person in a state of major impurity — that if he sleeps, eats, or drinks, he may perform ablution.
