English Translation

ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Maʿmar narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUtbah, that ʿAmmār ibn Yāsir used to narrate that he was with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey, and ʿĀʾishah was with him. Her necklace was lost, and the people were held up searching for it until they reached morning without water. The verse of tayammum was then revealed. ʿAmmār said: They stood and wiped with [the earth]. They struck their hands and wiped their faces, then repeated it and struck their hands a second time, then wiped their arms to the elbows — or he said: to the shoulders.
