Hadith #73

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ أَنَّ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ كَتَبَ إِلَى قَيْسِ بْنِ الْهَيْثَمِ إِنَّكُمْ إِخْوَانُنَا وَأَشِقَّاؤُنَا وَإِنَّا شَهِدْنَا وَلَمْ تَشْهَدُوا وَسَمِعْنَا وَلَمْ تَسْمَعُوا وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ السَّاعَةِ فِتَنًا كَأَنَّهَا قِطَعُ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا وَيَبِيعُ فِيهَا أَقْوَامٌ خَلَاقَهُمْ بِعَرَضٍ مِنْ الدُّنْيَا
English Translation
Ismāʿīl narrated to us, from Yūnus, from al-Ḥasan: that al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr wrote to Qays ibn al-Haytham: You are our brothers and our equals. We were present and you were not, and we heard and you did not. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say: 'Indeed, before the Hour there will be tribulations like pieces of a dark night: a man will wake up in them a believer and by evening become a disbeliever. People will sell their share of the Hereafter for a portion of this world.'
