English Translation
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā narrated: A man came late to the prayer row. When the Prophet ﷺ raised his head from rukūʿ, the man said: 'Allāhu akbar kabīran, wa subḥān Allāhi bukratan wa aṣīlan (Allah is the Greatest, immensely great, and glory be to Allah morning and evening).' The Muslims raised their heads and were surprised at the man. They said, 'Who is the one raising his voice above the voice of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished, he said, 'Who is the one with the loud voice?' It was said, 'This one here, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'By Allah, I saw your words ascending to the sky until a gate was opened and they entered through it.' Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: Jaʿfar ibn Ḥumayd al-Kūfī narrated to us, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Iyād ibn Laqīṭ, from Iyād, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā — a similar narration.
