حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُمْهَانٍَ قَالَ كُنَّا نُقَاتِلُ الْخَوَارِجَ وَفِينَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي أَوْفَى وَقَدْ لَحِقَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ بِالْخَوَارِجِ وَهُمْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الشَّطِّ وَنَحْنُ مِنْ ذَا الشَّطِّ فَنَادَيْنَاهُ أَبَا فَيْرُوزَ أَبَا فَيْرُوزَ وَيْحَكَ هَذَا مَوْلَاكَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَ
بِي أَوْفَى قَالَ نِعْمَ الرَّجُلُ هُوَ لَوْ هَاجَرَ قَالَ مَا يَقُولُ عَدُوُّ اللَّهِ قَالَ قُلْنَا يَقُولُ نِعْمَ الرَّجُلُ لَوْ هَاجَرَ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَهِجْرَةٌ بَعْدَ هِجْرَتِي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ طُوبَى لِمَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ وَقَتَلُوهُ

English Translation
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā narrated: Fayrūz — one said to him, 'Woe to you! This is your master ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā.' He said, 'What a fine man he is, if only he had made hijrah.' They asked, 'What does the enemy of Allah say?' They replied, 'He says: What a fine man, if only he had made hijrah.' Ibn Abī Awfā said, 'Is there hijrah after my hijrah with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' Then he said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Ṭūbā (glad tidings/Paradise) for whoever kills them and is killed by them' — meaning the Khawārij.
