English Translation
Hammām narrated: I saw Jarīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh performing wuḍūʾ from a vessel and wiping over his leather socks. They said to him, 'You wipe over your leather socks?' He said, 'I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ' — and he said on one occasion — 'wiping over his leather socks.' This ḥadīth used to impress the companions of ʿAbd Allāh (ibn Masʿūd), as they would say: Jarīr's acceptance of Islam was after the revelation of Sūrat al-Māʾidah.
