English Translation
Abū Aḥmad al-Zubayrī narrated to us, Sufyān narrated to us, from al-Jurayrī, from Abū ʿUthmān, from Ḥanẓalah رضي الله عنه who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we mentioned Paradise and the Fire until it was as if we could see them with our own eyes. Then I went to my family and laughed and played with my family and children. I recalled what I had been like in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I went out and met Abū Bakr and said, 'O Abū Bakr, Ḥanẓalah has become a hypocrite!' He said, 'What is that about?' I said, 'We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we mentioned Paradise and the Fire until it was as if we could see them, then I went to my family and laughed and played with my children and family.' He said, 'We do the same.' So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that to him. He said, 'O Ḥanẓalah, if you were to remain in your homes as you are when with me, the angels would shake your hands on your beds and on the roads. O Ḥanẓalah, an hour for this and an hour for that.'
