حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ يَعْنِي الْقَطَّانَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ الْأُسَيِّدِيِّ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا
رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّا إِذَا كُنَّا عِنْدَكَ كُنَّا فَإِذَا فَارَقْنَاكَ كُنَّا عَلَى غَيْرِ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ تَكُونُونَ عَلَى الْحَالِ الَّذِي تَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهَا عِنْدِي لَصَافَحَتْكُمْ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَلَأَظَلَّتْكُمْ بِأَجْنِحَتِهَا

English Translation
Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī narrated to us, ʿImrān — meaning al-Qaṭṭān — narrated to us, from Qatādah, from Yazīd ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Shikhkhīr, from Ḥanẓalah al-Usayyidī رضي الله عنه who said: I said, 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when we are with you we are in one state, but when we leave you we are in another.' He said, 'By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if you were to remain upon the state you are in when with me, the angels would shake your hands and shade you with their wings.'
