Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا حُصَيْنٌ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَيْفِيٍّ الْأَنْصَارىِّ قَالَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ
وَسَلَّمَ فِي يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَ أَصُمْتُمْ يَوْمَكُمْ هَذَا فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ نَعَمْ وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لَا قَالَ فَأَتِمُّوا بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يُؤْذِنُوا أَهْلَ الْعَرُوضِ أَنْ يُتِمُّوا يَوْمَهُمْ ذَلِكَ

English Translation
Muḥammad ibn Ṣayfī al-Anṣārī narrated: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us on the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ and said: 'Did you fast this day of yours?' Some said yes and some said no. He said: 'Then complete the rest of your day,' and he ordered them to announce to the people of the outskirts that they should complete their day.
