حَدَّثَنَا أَزْهَرُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَعْلَى بْنِ كَعْبٍ الطَّائِفِيُّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الشَّرِيدِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اسْتَنْشَدَهُ مِنْ شِعْر
ِ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ قَالَ فَأَنْشَدَهُ مِائَةَ قَافِيَةٍ فَلَمْ أُنْشِدْهُ شَيْئًا إِلَّا قَالَ إِيهِ إِيهِ حَتَّى إِذَا اسْتَفْرَغْتُ مِنْ مِائَةِ قَافِيَةٍ قَالَ كَادَ أَنْ يُسْلِمَ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Azhar ibn al-Qāsim narrated to us, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yaʿlā ibn Kaʿb al-Ṭāʾifī narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn al-Sharīd, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him to recite from the poetry of Umayyah ibn Abī al-Ṣalt. He said: So I recited to him one hundred verses, and every time I recited one he would say, 'Go on, go on!' until I had exhausted the one hundred verses. Then he said: 'He nearly became Muslim.'
