حَدَّثَنَا مُهَنَّأُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ قَالَ أَبِي كُنْيَتُهُ أَبُو شِبْلٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنِ الشَّرِيدِ أَنَّ أُمَّهُ أَوْصَتْ أَنْ يُعْتَقَ عَنْهَا رَقَبَةٌ مُؤْمِنَةٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي أَوْصَتْ أَنْ يُعْتَقَ عَنْهَا رَق
َبَةٌ مُؤْمِنَةٌ وَعِنْدِي جَارِيَةٌ نُوبِيَّةٌ سَوْدَاءُ فَقَالَ ادْعُ بِهَا فَجَاءَ بِهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ رَبُّكِ قَالَتْ اللَّهُ قَالَ مَنْ أَنَا قَالَتْ أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ

English Translation
Muhannaʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd narrated to us — my father said his kunyah was Abū Shibl — Ḥammād, meaning Ibn Salamah, narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr, from Abū Salamah, from al-Sharīd, that his mother bequeathed that a believing slave be freed on her behalf. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, my mother bequeathed that a believing slave be freed on her behalf, and I have a black Nubian slave girl.' He said: 'Bring her.' So he brought her, and the Prophet ﷺ said to her: 'Who is your Lord?' She said: 'Allah.' He said: 'Who am I?' She said: 'You are the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He said: 'Free her, for she is a believer.'
