English Translation

Ibn Abī ʿAdī narrated to us, from Sulaymān — meaning al-Taymī — from Abū al-Salīl, from Zahdam, from Abū Mūsā, who said: We went to the Prophet ﷺ asking him for mounts. He said: 'By Allah, I will not give you mounts.' So we went back, and he sent us three spotted-humped camels. Some of us said to others: the Prophet ﷺ swore not to give us mounts. So we went to him and said: You swore not to give us mounts. He said: 'It was not I who carried you; rather it was Allah تعالى who carried you. There is no oath I swear but if I see something better than it, I do what is better.'
